Joseph McDermott is a pianist, accompanist, and educator from the Capital Region. A graduate of Columbia High School in East Greenbush, Dr. McDermott went on to pursue both a bachelor’s and master’s degree at the Crane School of Music (piano performance with a concentration in piano pedagogy); he then earned his doctorate in piano performance from West Virginia University. In addition to working steadily as a classical and musical theater accompanist and rehearsal pianist, Dr. McDermott has taught piano since he was a senior in high school. His students have ranged from elementary-aged beginners to undergraduate piano majors at West Virginia University. “I’ve had the privilege of working with outstanding teachers,” he says, “and I hope to guide my own students toward lives empowered by consistent effort and enriched by music.”
