Brian Halliday is a pianist and educator from Clifton Park, New York. He grew up in the Capital Region, attended Shenendehowa High School, and took advantage of many of the music programs the school and region offered, including Empire State Youth Jazz Ensemble, NYSSMA All-State Jazz Ensemble and the NAfME All-Eastern Jazz Ensemble. Mr. Halliday graduated summa cum laude in jazz studies with a concentration in piano performance from SUNY Purchase. While he was there he studied with and learned from highly respected jazz musicians, including bassist Doug Weiss and drummer Richie Morales; he also played gigs with them in and around New York City and filled in for pianist Pete Malinverni on numerous occasions. At The Music Cottage, a private music school in Brewster, New York, Mr. Halliday taught piano lessons spanning all musical genres to students of all ages. He has worked as a teaching assistant and resident assistant at the Skidmore Summer Jazz Institute, whom he represented at the Saratoga Jazz Fest in 2020 with his trio. Most recently, he has taught as a substitute at the elementary level throughout the Shenendehowa Central School District and performed regularly with his ensemble, Soul Session.
